Ominivore, Herbivore, Carnivore, Detritivore

Well my little omnivores managed to dodge the rain till about the last ten minutes today.  Thank the Lord. Just one more time of good weather so we can get in the creek to mine some fossils tomorrow.
We added a couple of new items in our physical activity block.  Points were earned for giving  their best during "Going on a Bear Hunt."  They were supposed to pick the camp counselor who did the best job.  I'll have to find out tomorrow who it was.  I never get to see what you will see, as I'm in the tree fort reading. These pictures made me laugh though.

Looks like they are working hard to earn that point.

They would love for the fun to never stop, but we actually do a bit of work every day.
We used the word "hibernate" to create new words before we started writing.

I've actually seen some of them shed a bit of their reluctance for writing.

My goal is for this to be pretty laid back.  For this young writer, we talked about words one might used instead of "good."  What I love about this relaxed learning, the kiddo next to this one chimed in with words, so we made a list.

A Table of Contents?  Wow! How cool is that?

After this week, I'll be challenging them to stretch themselves and write a little more creatively.

Back to the balance beam.

Snacks today were bear claws.  Yummy.

On our woods hike we discussed carnivore, omnivores, herbivores and detritivores.  We looked under logs for critters that help decompose natural materials.  We found some beetle larva that the omnivore chickens love.

Don't forget to practice your poem!
